Training takes place on Tuesdays & Wednesdays          9am - 3.30pm

You can chose to attend 1 or 2 days per week.

Training takes place in our premier dog grooming training school at 1 St Ives road,  Leadgate, Consett. DH8 7PY

We offer the following courses -

Level 2 - Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants (7763-02)
Level 3 - Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming (7863-03)

A taster session at Top Trimz is recommended before enrolling on a grooming course anywhere in the North East.

We understand that attending a new environment can be an anxious event, it is our aim to make you feel relaxed and comfortable to make your learning experience with us a positive one. 

You can book a free, no obligation Taster session by calling 01207 505595.    The purpose of the taster session is for you to come into the salon on a normal training day and meet the staff, see the premises & find out more about the dog grooming courses.  You will also meet current students and have an opportunity to chat with them.   The taster session will give you the chance to find out if one of our courses is right for you.

City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants

This is the first stage to becoming a professional dog groomer. 

Some of the topics this course will cover are Health & Safety in the grooming salon, health checking animals, bathing and cleaning animals, cleaning and maintaining equipment, controlling and restraining animals, drying the different coat types and preparing their coats for styling. The course includes rough clipping & basic scissor work.

You will complete in house assessments on these topics and complete homework assignments during your course & home study.

Learners who complete Level 2 can find employment in a salon as a dog groomer assistant.

It is important you set aside time at home to complete the homework & study (guided learning). A total of 183 learning hours is requires for this course, this is achieved with onsite tuition & guided home study.

Level 2  |  15 days tuition (on site)  | £2,050         

City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming

Learners must complete the Level 2 before they can be registered for Level 3.

During this course you will continue to use all of your Level 2 skills to prepare your dog for grooming. This course will cover trimming and styling a variety of breeds & coat types using the various grooming methods/techniques. This will be achieved by learners either working on a dog each or in pairs.

 You will be assessed on the following-

- Risk assessment & first aid

- Styling a wool mix coat dog

- Styling a drop coat dog

- Grooming a dog to breed standard

- A hand strip dog

There is also an evolve exam which is held twice a year. This exam is in June & November & must be booked 2 months in advance.

A total of 300 learning course is required for this course, this is achieved with onsite tuition & guided home study.

Level 3  |  25 days                    |  £4,000

 

Experienced grooming assistants/ Experienced dog groomers

Established groomers or groomers’ assistants do not need to complete a full tuition course,  If you already have the experience or have previously completed a training course elsewhere you can attend Top Trimz to complete the qualification only providing you are at the required standard. You will be required to attend a pre-qualification assessment before enrolling.

You will be required to achieve the Level 2 first before enrolling for the level 3.

As a result of the assessment, you will need to attend skills gap days and/or may be advised to complete some extra tuition to reach the required standard for the City & Guilds qualifications.
